The Intercontinental Championship was once again at stake inside a steel cage as Jeff Hardy attempted to successfully retain his title against Johnny Nitro at the first pay-per-view extravaganza of 2007. The two competitors had spent the first four months of Hardy's return to WWE feuding with one another for the secondary title and would clash in the deciding match in their rivalry. The finish, which saw Nitro crotched atop the cage door, may have been lifted from a previous bout between X-Pac and Chris Jericho but even it had its own twist that made it something fans had never witnessed before. By the end of the match, Hardy and Nitro had set the bar too high for any other Superstar on the New Year's Revolution card to eclipse.
