Hey, remember when Jack Swagger won Money in the Bank and then was world champion? Hey, stop laughing!

Okay, you can laugh a little, because the thought of it now is totally absurd. But at the time, you could kind of see what WWE saw in the All-American American. He had a unique look, could put on a good match, and he had a run in WWECW as its champion that showed he could competently star on a show.

However, when he cashed in on Chris Jericho on an episode of SmackDown, it all fell apart. Not only was Swagger booked like an absolute joke, accumulating the worst win-loss record of a world champion since Rey Mysterio, but his promos showed that he was clearly uncomfortable with the main event spotlight.

Swagger soon lost the title (ironically enough to Rey) before being mired in the midcard for years. He would flirt with the World Championship one more time in 2013, but a marijuana bust kiboshed any hope of him actually winning the belt.

Jack Swagger may not have been a world-class talent, but it's lamentable that his botched Money in the Bank ascension rendered him a failure in the grand scheme.
