8 Comedy Wrestlers Who Were Legitimate Tough Guys

7. Mitch!

I know that isn't how his name is stylised, but you can't say the name of a member of the Spirit Squad without exclamation, right?

The Spirit Squad were a group of male cheerleaders, and whilst not outright comedic characters they were never exactly positioned as credible threats either. They were treated as a joke, tag team championship win or not. Heck, they were written off of TV via a joke.

It will come as some surprise then to find out that Mitch (real name Nick Mitchell) has since taken part in Mixed Martial Arts. Again, you don't take part in legitimate combat world without a certain degree of toughness, male cheerleader or not. Mitchell also played four years of varsity American football, but was expelled for fighting.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
