8 Comedy Wrestlers Who Were Legitimate Tough Guys

For the vast majority of his career, Perry Saturn was far from a comedy wrestler. It is fairly sad then that the majority of people will remember him from his final run in the World Wrestling Federation that saw him become enamoured with a mop. The gimmick was loosely based on the character of 'Wilson the Volleyball' in Tom Hanks' Castaway, and seeing one of the most underrated wrestlers saddled with such a comedic gimmick was more sad than anything else.

Before becoming a pro wrestler Saturn spent four years in the army, but it was one incident that happened after his release from WWE that really sets him apart. In April 2004 Saturn managed to stop two men from raping a woman. He fought them off, but in doing do was shot in the back of the neck. With a gun. Shot in the neck with a gun. He figured he'd been punched, shrugged it off and continued his battle.

Well, you don't get shot in the neck and shrug it off unless you're pretty tough. The incident would have serious repercussions for Perry though, as he got addicted to meth afterwards and pretty much disappeared off the face of the planet. He resurfaced in 2009, with a tattoo on his face because that's what tough guys do.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
