8 Controversial WWE Finishes That Actually Worked

3 Lying, Cheating And Stealing

If you're not cheating, you're not trying! That was Eddie Guerrero's inspirational mantra during his wonderful run between early 2003 and his death in November 2005. Although it wasn't exactly the best message to be conveying to the young and impressionable wrestling audience, but it did result in some fantastic match finishes. Indeed, one of the highlights of Smackdown during this period was Eddie's wonderfully inventive ways of getting the better of his opponents and winning matches. Eddie, who was a heel but rapidly being turned babyface by the fans, began trying to frame his opponents, throwing a chair or other inanimate object into their hands before feigning being struck himself. Invariably, the referee would see this and either disqualify the non-offender or provide a distraction long enough so that Eddie himself could level his foe with his own chair or title belt. It was magic stuff, but did lead to controversy, with rematches becoming regular occurrences once the refs and authority figures had clocked onto what was happening. Played for laughs instead of being truly controversial? Maybe, but the finishes were so entertaining and often ingenious.
