8 Desperately Weird Vince McMahon Promotional Tactics

5. Promoting God

WWE Backlash 2006 Vince McMahon God
WWE Network

Backlash 2006 was set to debut possibly the hottest free agent signing in the history of WWE, when the company promoted that God him/herself would be showing up to team with Shawn Michaels.

HBK is a born again Christian, and it became part of a storyline when Vince McMahon and his son Shane wanted to fight him in the ring. Instead of letting him choose a partner, they gifted him with God. No one was quite sure what in the hell...sorry, heck, the company was planning on doing for the match. Knowing WWE, it wouldn’t have been weird of them at all to dress Santino or Hornswoggle in a robe and white beard and had them team up with Michaels.

Instead, they basically showed a beam of light on the entryway, and had it move towards the ring. It was absurd, but not quite as absurd as The McMahons winning the match, basically defeating God in the process.

Million of Christians came out in force to watch The Passion of The Christ in theaters 2004. Two years later they (along with everyone else) avoided McMahon promoting himself taking on God like the plague.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
