8 Desperately Weird Vince McMahon Promotional Tactics

4. Celebrity GMs

Vince McMahon loves himself some celebrities. It’s kind of a fragile ego thing going on, where if anyone in the mainstream media makes fun of wrestling, he has a bad day. So he constantly brings in celebrities to try and let people know that wrestling is cool.

While on occasion, famous faces like Mike Tyson and Mr. T have added to his shows, most often they feel out of place. The worst of it all was when he let a bunch of people who likely were not fans of wrestling become general managers of Raw for the night. Dear God (aka Shawn Michaels' tag partner) was it awful.

Whoever wanted to see Florence Henderson run a wrestling show? How about Al Sharpton? Dennis Miller? Johnny Damon? What, was Screech from Saved By The Bell busy during that time?

Well, amazingly every GM booked Raw the exact same way, and none of them really did anything that interesting. Florence could have made John Cena fight the entire Brady Bunch cast at the same time. Pee Wee Herman could have booked himself in a “I Know You Are But What Am I Match” with the WWE championship on the line. Instead it was mainly horrendously unfunny segments, and The Bella Twins flirting with every male guest.

Mercifully, after five months, Vince got it out of his system and we are no longer subjected to celebrities running our wrestling programs…except Billy Corgan.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
