8 Desperately Weird Vince McMahon Promotional Tactics

1. Watch Raw. Win Money

In 2008, Raw ratings were not so hot, and in order to hold on to his remaining viewers Vince bribed them with money...or at least the opportunity to win some money. Thus began the Million Dollar Giveaway.

All fans had to do was enter a contest, and answer their phone when Vince called and give him the password mentioned at the opening of the show. It was a very nice thing...for the dozen or so people who won cash, the other few million people who did not felt like suckers for watching.

It was an embarrassing fiasco all around. It made for horrible live television as we watched billionaire Vince struggle to work a telephone, and then waited in unending anticipation as the phone often wasn’t answered.

Much like Trish Stratus, he made one caller bark like a dog. Luckily he didn’t ask them to also strip down to their bra and panties. In total, three million dollars was given away over the course of the contest and the ratings were awful.

Vince should have just taken that money and given one dollar to each person watching. It surely would have been a better investment.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
