8 Disastrous WWE Debut Matches
2. Phantasio
Another entry to the 'one and done' category, Phantasio is one of the most peculiar superstars in WWE history. Harry Del Rios, supposedly the first ever wrestler to be signed to a developmental deal, had wrestled in the Memphis USWA territory as Brian Damage when he got the call to join the WWF roster.
He was a big, jacked-up guy, 6ft 3in and around 275lbs of muscle, and wasn't all that bad in the ring. He probably could have had a decent run in the company, had the gimmick he was handed not completely killed his credibility from the off.
His first mistake was being a real-life amateur magician. Obviously that was something that Vince McMahon couldn't pass up, so he made it his act. Making his debut on WWE Superstars on July 16, 1995, Phantasio came the ring wearing a mask and performing a couple of magic tricks, such as making smoke come out of his hat. Smell the money!
The match (a typical squash deal opposite future ECW star Tony DeVito), had a novel (read: embarrassing) finish, with Phantasio getting the win after removing his opponent's underwear. Then, after the match, he removed referee Earl Hebner's too, because the joke was even funnier the second time.
And that was it for Phantasio. He never made another televised WWE appearance again which, according to a 2006 interview with Del Rios, was because The Undertaker thought the character was too close to his own. Pantsing, embalming...it's all the same, really.
