8 Disastrous WWE Debut Matches

3. Buff Bagwell & Booker T

Buff Bagwell was supposed to be one of WCW's big guns during the Invasion but a combination of a poor attitude, problems with management and a pretty bad WWE debut match meant that he only lasted for two whole matches before being cut loose.

Initially, WWE were considering re-branding Raw as Nitro, as crazy as that seems. As sort of a test for this, they held a WCW main event on the July 2nd, 2001 episode of Raw with Booker T defending his WCW World Title against 'The Stuff'.

WWE fans, who had been trained over the years to loathe the competition, treated it with the (lack of) respect that Vince had instilled in them. It didn't help that the match itself was a bit of a stinker, with Bagwell in particular looking a little off his game.

The match itself was too short to be truly terrible, but the crowd reaction did them in. They didn't want to see a WCW presentation and they didn't want to see the obnoxious Bagwell. It was a bold, but bad, idea to have them main event WWE's flagship.

Thankfully, Booker recovered and his career ended up going from strength to strength, but Buff was left out in the cold. If you're gonna be a cocky such and such backstage, you better be able to back it up in the ring. He couldn't, so he was gone, a single televised match into his WWE 'career'.
