8 Extravagant Ways Wrestlers Waste Their Money

7. Inoki's Island

Antonio Inoki is nothing if not erratic. The man with the incredible chin is as famous for his eccentric behaviour outside of the ring as he is for his in-ring exploits. Examples of Inoki's bizarre behaviour include his frequent, unauthorised trips to North Korea, his match with Muhammed Ali in which he was only allowed to fight from lying on his back and the time he came out before a show he was promoting attached to a giant crucifix. It should come as now surprise, then, that Inoki might have made some outlandish purchases in his time. One such purchase was an Island in Cuba. The story behind it is incredible but, like everything with Inoki, must be taken with a pinch of salt. Inoki apparently bought the island from Fidel Castro after Castro convinced the wrestler that there was treasure buried there. See, Inoki has had a long political career in conjunction with his wrestling one and he was actually the first governmental official from a Western/democratic nation to meet with Castro. Inoki renamed the island the 'Inoki Friendship Island' and, according to the book Ring of Hell, tried to entice his friends to go digging for the sacred treasure. It's unknown if anyone did but Inoki did once wrestle Masa Saito on a (different) island for two whole hours.
