8 Former Midcarders Who Could Returns As WWE Main Eventers In 2016

5. The Original Sin Cara

Bear with me, folks. The original Sin Cara was signed by WWE to much fanfare in early 2011. The former Mistico had been one of the most impressive high-flyers in the world since 2004 and those who knew his stuff were looking forward to seeing him tear it up in the WWE environment. He debuted in an angle with Sheamus on the post-WrestleMania XXVII Raw. Things were a bit off right from the get-go, with Cara patently not used to the WWE style of working. He botched. A lot. So he was moved to Smackdown, where WWE could at least edit out some of the worst f*** ups. Not that it helped him much, because just a few months into his run he was slapped with a Wellness violation and then, a few months after his return, he suffered a patella tendon rupture, benching him for a further six months. When he returned he was put into a fairly entertaining team with fellow masked superstar Rey Mysterio. They had some good matches and were entertaining enough, but it was obvious Cara wasn't going to be around for long. WWE released him in March 2014 and has since returned to Mexico, and is now wrestling for the hardly illustrious Lucha Libre Elite promotion having fell out with AAA. His work since leaving WWE has been good, showing that he was maybe not wholly to blame for his run there being a bit of a disaster. He has come out and criticised WWE for not allowing him to work the style he's used to, which can't have endeared him to the power players there (least of all Triple H, who was responsible for signing Cara) but WWE are always after more hispanic talent to help sell those Mexico tours. Alberto Del Rio hasn't exactly set the world on fire since his return in October, but perhaps Cara could come back and become the bona fide Mexican superstar that WWE crave? He'd need a name/gimmick change first, obviously (and there's also the recent signing of CMLL's La Sombra...).
