8 Gimmick Matches You'll NEVER See In WWE Again

A 'Punjabi Prison' match is a visual feast, no doubt.

Walls of bamboo circle the ring to form a cage-like structure with an incredible regional flair, which made it perfect for wrestlers like Jinder Mahal and The Great Khali. Add bamboo spikes at the top of the prison, and the whole thing looks imposing and aesthetically impressive. That added a real sense of violence and intimidation to proceedings from the off.

However, these matches feel very much of their time; WWE attempted to make strides into the Indian market years ago, for example. The 'Punjabi Prison' match between Jinder Mahal and Randy Orton from 2017 was actually pretty solid, but WWE hasn't catered its product towards India in quite some time, so their interest in this match type has cooled significantly.

Unless WWE makes another play to make a big splash in that region or it has a red-hot, main event caliber Indian star, then it feels almost implausible that the 'Punjabi Prison' match will make a return to our screens any time soon. In fact, the last one took place nearly 10 years ago at Battleground 2017, so it seems as though our 'Punjabi Prison' days are over.
