8 Greatest Hail Mary Victories In MMA History

6. Todd Duffee Vs. Mike Russow

One of the things that becomes embedded in combat sports fans through years of watching combatants vying for supremacy in competition is that physiques aren't always correlated with success.

I mean sure, looking like a Greek god is a good indication that a fighter is in good condition, but over the years guys like Roy Nelson have proven that having six pack abs isn't the be-all and end-all of professional fighting.

Still, based on physiques alone, you'd be forgiven for thinking that there was no way that the average-looking Mike Russow stood a chance against the adonis-bodied Todd Duffee when the two met at UFC 114.

And for the first two rounds, it appeared that the herculean Duffee would live up to his reputation as one of the hottest prospects in heavyweight MMA at that time, as he peppered the seasoned Russow with strikes.

With defeat imminent, Russow turned the tide in the final round, knocking his opponent out with a pair of right hands, and following up with a hammerfist that, admittedly, was more akin to a doorknock than a brutal finishing blow.
