This might be one of the most infamous impromptu WrestleMania matches in WWE history.

Bret “Hitman” Hart was scheduled to defending the WWF Championship against Yokozuna in the main event of WrestleMania IX. Mr. Fuji managed to blind Hart with salt, allowing Yoko to beat Bret and win the title. Just like that, the heel had won the main event of WrestleMania for the first time.

Not so fast. Hulk Hogan came out to help a blinded Hart, when Fuji started running down Hogan (who had lost a tag title match by DQ earlier in the night), challenging the Hulkster to a title match right then and there.

With Hart’s blessing, Hogan accepted, and seconds later, he toppled Yokozuna to leave WrestleMania as the world champion. It was a move that would backfire spectacularly with the fans. Months later, Hogan was gone from WWF, not to return for nearly nine years.
