Roman Reigns’ popularity is at an all-time low. Vince McMahon’s apparent golden child had long since been rejected by the WWE faithful, and his Wellness violation compounds it. WWE have tried to position him as the top babyface, and it has failed miserably: fans will only ever jeer him in his current persona, and he’ll surely be booed out of the building when he makes his entrance at Battleground.

He’s not the only miscast character in the night’s main event, though. Seth Rollins was perfectly positioned to return as a babyface after a long, gruelling recovery from injury. Fans were absolutely itching to cheer him as he strode down to the ring on the post-Extreme Rules Raw, and it came as a great disappointment when he opened his mouth and spewed the same heel rhetoric as before.

There are now strong rumors that both men could turn at Battleground, perhaps even during the match itself. Their crowd reactions are already the wrong way around: all they need to do is have Reigns bully Rollins and Ambrose throughout the match, and position Rollins as the sympathetic foil, much like Steve Austin and Bret Hart’s legendary showdown at WrestleMania 13.

It’s a smart, logical booking that makes perfect sense, particularly with Rollins and Reigns standing as Raw’s only recognised post-Draft main eventers. Raw will suffer immensely if its two protagonists’ alignments aren’t adjusted to match their crowd reactions, so here’s hoping it comes to fruition.
