8 Lessons WWE Could Learn From The MCU
2. Long Term Storytelling
One of the best things about the MCU is coincidentally one of the worst things about WWE right now. Marvel have always worked well to hint at future movies through Easter eggs, as well as using throwbacks to underpin an overarching and consistent narrative. Things are meticulously planned from day one, and it seems very clear that they have a vision for what's going to happen going forwards.
As a result of this, there's very clear and obvious character development that accompanies it. Look at Iron Man across the MCU. He's clearly developed and progressed, in a way which seems very intentional creatively.
Due to the way they're creatively driven, WWE struggle to book long term stories. You will regularly hear stories of Vince McMahon ripping up the script to a show hours before it goes live, and although he works well when improvising, this is often evident when you watch Raw or SmackDown.
This one is so simple. An audience wants to watch a long term story, knowing there will be callbacks and a pay-off at the end. It's one the simplest things to remember in storytelling, but something WWE can't seem to get right, or even consider as being important.
