8 Lessons WWE Should Learn From Daniel Bryan's Latest Injury
6. Another Major Star Down
One look at WWE's current roster suggests that there are a ton of talented individuals. What is noticeably lacks is legitimate stars capable of carrying the load and headlining live events across the country. That is a major weakness for the company at this point in time and now that they have lost Bryan, even if only for a month, said weakness becomes enhanced significantly. Today's WWE product is so incredibly devoid of legitimate draws that the company regularly resorts to bringing back part-time and semi-retired talent for its huge WrestleMania events. Sure, Roman Reigns is a burgeoning young star but he has also been held back by typical WWE booking, which has become a major detriment to the company's ability to build stars. By continuing to institute 50/50 booking for the majority of the roster, no one is every really allowed to get over or separate themselves from the rest of the pack. Someone like Dean Ambrose, despite being wildly popular with the WWE Universe, is not allowed the opportunity to advance past a certain point on the card so when someone like Bryan goes down at the hands of injury, the company is left to scramble, ultimately settling on tired, established acts like Cena, Randy Orton, Big Show and Kane to help fill the void. To prevent that from happening, the company should learn from a situation such as the one facing them now and build as many stars as they possibly can. That way, when the time comes that Bryan is sidelined for an unspecified amount of time, the company can plug another one of its draws into his spot and continue touring the country without worrying about attendance falling dramatically.
