8 Lessons WWE Should Learn From Daniel Bryan's Latest Injury
5. Intercontinental Championship Turmoil
From the moment they began spinning their wheels on booking WrestleMania, it became clear that WWE Creative was prioritizing the intercontinental title. Suddenly, the often overlooked midcard title became the focus of SmackDown and played a major part on Monday nights, as well. Every high-profile midcard star (and R-Truth) began chasing the championship held by Bad News Barrett. The presence Daniel Bryan, in particular, helped to increase the interest the title generation. Then, WWE Creative opted to dedicate SmackDown to strengthening the title. Bryan became the top star on the brand and his work with Sheamus, Dolph Ziggler and Barrett helped freshen up the show. It changed the pace and helped put focus on the talented stars stuck in WWE's midcard that, otherwise, would not receive the promo time or the elongated ring time. Now, the championship is left in limbo. Bryan's injury has created questions about the company's willingness to let him hold it while he recuperates or if it would behoove everyone involved to strip him of the title and continue on with another star carrying the gold. Either way, some of the luster that title enjoyed after WrestleMania will disappear, depending on how the current situation plays out.
