4. Braun Strowman Vs. The Miz & John Morrison - Universal Title Match

This was a World Title programme.

Comedy isn't verboten in serious programmes, but Christ. That Universal Title doesn't feel remotely big-time around the waist of that passé lug, and this match wasn't even funny. So it accomplished nothing unless, of course, damaging the aura of two wrestlers at once counts. On the plus side, the Tag Team Titles also don't really feel prestigious, so it's not as if this buries the Miz and John Morrison. They simply move plots in the same wacky, slime-covered graveyard.

That's a facetious assessment of a match hardly worth critical thought, but John Morrison, he of criminal patter, does at least have the odd funny bone in him because his slapstick selling was theoretically amusing, in that the target audience of small children may not question why it is that they still watch this. But since WWE's declining viewership is principally made up of 55 year-olds, that's hardly ideal, and if the aim is to attract a new generation of young fans, maybe don't have Randy Orton threatened to "f*cking kill" that "motherf*cker" Edge.

Over-pushing an act that didn't get over to a level beyond cult affection a decade ago also isn't a good idea to attract new fans.

Star Rating: ★★¼
