3. Drew McIntyre Vs. Bobby Lashley - WWE Championship Match

Much as in the main event, this rocked when it rid itself of the systemic WWE shackles, or they weren't so overbearing.

This for a time threatened to settle into your regulation WWE babyface powers through incredibly basic offence structure after Lashley had attacked McIntyre with the Full Nelson before the bell, the real drama generated by which was undermined the longer the heat went.

Why undersell the finish in the first act?

But after a very scary botch, in which McIntyre landed right on his head on the outside, this thing started to f*ck with brutal and brisk power move exchanges fought with a bruising, sweat-spraying intensity, the posturing macho rhythms of which were just lovely.

We were then gifted a rare and incredibly welcome glimpse of Bobby Lashley: wrestler who is skilled at MMA and as such was was fan-cast into a Brock Lesnar match. The submission exchanges amplified the drama, as did MVP's constant jaw-jacking on the outside.

He created a sense of peril and personality to the match as part of this promising new act, but the finish was ruined by the old - and very wearying - Lashley act. Nobody has given a single sh*t about the Lana and Lashley business since the wedding exhausted any and all perverse fascination with it, and now, nearly six months later, the last fumes of the story are deciding the finishes of pay-per-view World Title matches.

Star Rating: ★★★½
