8 Mistakes WWE Have Already Made With Jason Jordan's Push
6. Treating The Storyline Seriously
Although it's been instantly panned by a large portion of the audience, this 'Kurt Angle's illegitimate son' storyline isn't necessarily all that ridiculous, at least within the confines of pro wrestling.
In the current WWE landscape, we have literal Fashion Police, a manic movie producer who covers himself in gold paint, and two different wrestlers who antagonise their opponents through singing insults about the city they're in. Hell, we're less than four months removed from The House Of Horrors. By comparison, this angle looks downright sensible.
Being this po-faced and serious about it, however, is still a mistake. It's soap opera material but still lacking a sense of drama, so the silliness of the material is unavoidable. Embracing the ridiculous aspects or at least trying to find some humour in the angle would make it a much more endearing story, but alas, WWE seem committed on treating this with total sincerity.
Look at the tedious, unremarkable interview given by Angle and Jordan shortly after the reveal - somehow utterly devoid of charm or a single memorable moment. Angle's a funny guy, and a sense of self-awareness or at least levity in this storyline would do wonders to increase the audience's investment in both Jordan and his future role in WWE.
