8 Most Embarrassing Moments In MMA History
2. Chuck Liddell's Entrance At UFC 43
During the early 2000s, the UFC was in turmoil. After lawmakers cracked down on MMA due to its violent nature, many pay-per-view providers were no longer willing to showcase the sport, and the UFC came close to having to close its doors for good.
During that time, the organisation was buoyed by the success of stars such as Matt Hughes, Randy Couture, and Tito Ortiz.
But none were bigger than 'The Iceman' Chuck Liddell.
Due to decreased attendances, the UFC had to get creative with ways to seem like the show was getting more grandiose in spite of declining business. One of the ways they did this was incorporating a large, pro-wrestling style entrance ramp, complete with extravagant entrances with music and pyro.
So when Liddell entered the Octagon for his bout with Randy Couture in 2003, the company went all out for his entrance including a vignette of the late Tapout crew member Charles 'Mask' Lewis introducing Liddell.
The problem was, the vignette was just awful.
Other than being completely cringeworthy, the video also confirms many of the worst stereotypes surrounding MMA, and appears to suggest that among Liddell's terrifying traits is his intolerance.
The video would prove to be a bad omen for the 'Iceman' as Liddell was defeated by Couture via third-round knockout.
