8 Most Insane Things Happening In Wrestling Right Now (June 16)

The "I Quit" match is a rare stipulation predicated almost entirely on the finish.

The Rock Vs. Mankind bout from Royal Rumble '99 ended with a brilliant Attitude Era-style swerve. As The Rock held the microphone to a near-unconscious Mankind's mouth, Mrs. Foley's baby boy's doctored prerecorded promo (You'll never hear me say "I quit!") rang out over the arena. That was the last truly creative finish the WWF/E offered up. Usually, the prospect of serious bodily harm is enough to move a talent to utter those words. This practise reached an insane level during a FIST show on June 9.

This "I Quit" match pitted 'GET FIST'd' Television Champion 'Dirty' Ron McDonald - a sleazy doppelgänger of the burger chain mascot - against ROH stalwart Delirious. McDonald dropped two tabs of acid beforehand, and promised craziness. He delivered. The match was a lunatic procession of run-ins, staring contests and karaoke renditions. McDonald's warped balladry convinced Delirious that he "kind of" wanted to quit. What finally convinced him? The threat of being thrown from some massive height? Having his eye gouged out by a wooden chair leg?

No, McDonald grabbed a gun from an act named "Officer Chip Law" and threatened to kill everybody which, in America, is in particularly poor taste.

The most insane thing about this attempted felony is that Vince Russo didn't book it. It's also a good job Jim Cornette wasn't in attendance. This was such a contravention of traditional wrestling that he'd have grabbed said gun and blown his brains out.
