8 New Directions For WWE After Money In The Bank 2026
5. Punk & KO Settling The Score
Both Kevin Owens and CM Punk stayed true to their word heading into Saturday's PLE. They effectively stopped one another from pulling down the briefcase and earning a guaranteed title shot. There were several 'fight forever' trading blows sequences between them, and they took a pounding from Bron Breakker once or twice too.
Next stop? Settling things once and for all.
There's a big gimmick bout coming up between these guys. The question is, would Hell In A Cell be too hasty following the Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi stuff at SummerSlam? That’s one option, but so is a more standard ’Street Fight’ or ‘Last Man Standing’. The latter is probs the best fit considering they’ve been trying to put each other down for a while now.
Plus, Punk likes a good sell job, and he'd be able to sell, sell, sell if he was trying to beat the 10 count as an increasingly-exasperated Owens weighed up his vicious package piledriver to finish things off. Blood would be a must, so would weapons, and there should be an exhaustive feel to this so it stands out from their prior match on SmackDown.
That always felt like an appetiser and like there was more to come. Now, following MITB, it's crystal clear that Punk vs. Owens II is on the way sooner rather than later. In New Orleans, both acted like they were the only ones involved in the match. That's how deep their resentment runs.
HIAC could be risky, so let's plump for 'Last Man'.
