5. The Von Erichs Inducted Just Because Mania Is In Texas
"Hey, WrestleMania's in Texas? We're struggling to fill the hall this year? Let's get the Von Erichs in, they're big in Texas..." The Von Erich family were inducted ahead of WrestleMania XXV in 2009. From an outsider's perspective, and at the risk of being an uber-cynic, the reason they were chosen was because they made their name and legacy in the state of Texas, where Mania was held that year. There's little doubting the clan's effect on the wrestling business, but having them inducted in their home state, albeit logical, left a lot to be desired. Like so many of the inductees these days, the family has little or no ties to the WWE. Kerry was the only of the brothers to make a sizeable splash for Vince McMahon's company. So having them inducted in Texas made their induction seem a bit cheap, for the want of a better word. It was almost as if WWE were saying, 'most of them have no ties to our company, let's induct them in Texas so some people understand why...'
