8 Potential Consequences Of WWE's Rumoured Budget Cuts

7. A Big Roster Purge

Austin Aries, Simon Gotch, and Jack Swagger stand as the most notable names to leave WWE this year. Only a handful of wrestlers have departed the promotion in 2017, and thus far, the company have resisted all temptation to hold one of their annual roster purges. Unfortunately for the wrestlers, there's no more obvious place to start when it comes to cost-cutting, and the company could now be set for a major talent exodus.

There's nothing nice about people losing their jobs, but WWE are full of deadwood at the moment. Wrestlers like Paige and Eva Marie have been off television for months, and there's no word on if they'll ever return. Meanwhile, the likes of Sin Cara, The Ascension, and R-Truth don't offer much in their current roles, with the company getting little return for the money they pay them each month.

Releases are inevitable in wrestling, but WWE's rumoured budget cuts could see them manifest on a grander scale than usual. Eight wrestlers were given the 'future endeavours' treatment on a single day last year, and with WWE looking to tighten things up for the third financial quarter, this number could be even greater in 2017.
