As successful as NXT has been in keeping the WWE roster stocked with fresh talent, the brand has ran at a loss since its inception. The point is to train wrestlers and build familiarity with the next generation of talent, not turn a profit. Thus, WWE have been content to keep it chugging along regardless, theorising that in the end, the money these wrestlers will eventually draw on the main roster will more than make up for any developmental shortcomings.

While NXT is one of the company's greatest modern successes, minimising losses is one of the first things WWE will do when readjusting their finances. It remains one of the Network's most watched shows, and the TakeOver events have been a huge success, so there's no chance of NXT going away completely. Downsizing is a real possibility, however, and it starts at the Performance Center.

There are currently over 35 wrestlers either active or semi-active on NXT TV, with dozens more still to debut. The PC is badly is overcrowded, and WWE may see an opportunity to trim NXT's budget by slashing the number of trainees, thus reducing the need to run as many sparsely attended house shows around the local area.
