The smart money seems to suggest that Roman Reigns is walking out of MITB with the briefcase in hand: he has all the momentum in the world, had to fight tooth and nail last night to stay in the match, and there's a nice poetry in him waiting in the wings, teasing a cash-in on Rollins, after what the Architect did to him at Wrestlemania. But it's a bad idea for two reasons. First, the crowd is still tentative about Reigns right now. He's been steadily rebuilding his popularity ever since Wrestlemania, but that's because he hasn't been winning the big matches. He was out of the title picture for Extreme Rules, and he lost at Payback, but during both PPVs he looked strong, more charismatic, less handpicked for success, and the crowd have been coming around. There are barely any boos left now, but WWE would risk bringing a large portion of them back by having Reigns win the briefcase. What says 'management's golden boy' more than carrying around a solid gold reminder of the fact? Pulling off an amazing spot while eating another loss will make support for Reigns so much stronger when the time finally comes for him to step back into the one-on-one main event scene. Second, the briefcase just works so much better as a heel prop. It represents cunning, sneakiness and opportunism. Whenever faces like RVD and Cena held the case they cashed it in soon after because it doesn't gel with babyfaces' love of wading into battle, all guns blazing. Enter Bray Wyatt. The Eater of Worlds is currently without a feud, his burgeoning program with Ryback kiboshed by the Big Guy's new title win. WWE have told the audience that some superstars are yet to enter the MITB ladder match. Expect two more names to join the crowd: Kane (to stop Reigns from winning), and, after last night's showdown with Roman, Bray Wyatt. Wyatt moves in the shadows, appearing out of nowhere and striking when people least suspect it. Such an MO is perfect for the MITB winner. He can decorate the briefcase in black and talk to it backstage. He can use it to strike fear into the heart of any champion. And it would be a welcome swerve for what already seems like only a one-horse race. Of course, they still might give it to Reigns, but WWE should be mindful of other options, and consider following the buzzards.
