6. Joseph Conners Upsets Mark Andrews

Joseph Conners came to fight last night, and his trademark intensity saw him stifle James Drake en route to securing a comprehensive first round victory. Few wrestlers can handle Conners at his relentless best, and with commentator Nigel McGuinness earmarking him as his favourite to win the tournament, he could be set for a huge night in Blackpool.

Andrews, meanwhile, was comfortably the biggest star heading into the tournament. His leading role in PROGRESS and spell with TNA have opened him up to more exposure than any of the other competitors, and he justified the hype with a big performance against Dan Moloney. Unfortunately, Andrews’ reputation also leaves him with a huge target on his back, and that’s not a good thing, particularly against a man as driven as Conners.

Conners will enter as the underdog, but he’s out to make a name for himself in the UK Championship Tournament. He won’t give Andrews an inch when they step in the ring, and as good as Andrews is, few wrestlers can withstand the Righteous Ki--... Don’t Look Down. Andrews is a tenacious, gutsy performer who’s capable of beating anyone on his day: it’ll take every trick in Conners’ book to put him away, but the former WCPW Champion has what it takes.
