8 Problems WWE Solved In The Superstar Shake-Up

3. Tag Team Struggles

WWE haven’t put much care and attention into the way they’ve booked their tag teams since the turn of the year, but this seems to have changed in recent weeks. The Hardy Boyz and The Revival will provide Raw with a huge boon, and though SmackDown have lost former champions in Heath Slater & Rhyno, they’ve added one of WWE’s most popular acts.

The New Day had become stale on Raw, but they carried WWE’s tag scene on their backs last year. Their arrival not only benefits them as performers, but gives SmackDown’s lacklustre division a huge dose of credibility. American Alpha have failed as the top babyface unit, but The New Day have no such popularity issues and can be thrown into a title program with The Usos right away.

Focusing on The New Day will allow SmackDown to rebuild Alpha outside the title scene, and should extend the lifespan of an act that was close to running its course on Raw. The Shining Stars have also joined SD, and while they’re far from WWE’s most celebrated team, they still add depth to a division that had just four teams prior to last night.
