8. What The Hell Does Sports Entertainment Mean?
Sports Entertainment is one of those terms that been added to the wrestling lexicon, but means absolutely nothing. It is a completely redundant waste of letters and syllables that Vince McMahon and his employees drop at every opportunity they can, despite the fact it leaves viewers completely baffled. Ponder this - if one of your friends referred to films as motion picture entertainment, would you be able to stand hanging out with them? Or would their insufferable pretentiousness make you cut ties immediately? What are professional sports if not a form of entertainment? People don't watch football because they love the work of groundskeepers, and enjoy the stitching of uniforms. The human drama inherent in sports makes it incredibly entertaining at its very core, so people tune in. When WWE calls their product sports entertainment as if its something special, all they are doing is highlighting the meaningless of their product philosophy to viewers, and dragging them away from the action on the screen. It makes viewers ask themselves who is actually buying into that term, and how humiliating must it be to have to repeat 87 times per episode of Raw? We know WWE hates wrestling but, come on, if you're going to come up with a new term at least pick one that makes a modicum of sense.
