7. Why Do The Referees Keep Getting Knocked Out?
When wrestling fans are still in that stage of learning to understand how a match works, and what ring psychology beats are as old as time, there is nothing as frustrating as enduring the fragile referees WWE seems to hire. After all, we experience bumping into people on an almost daily basis, as far back as when we are babies. So why does getting gently nudged always knock these damn referees out? And for several minutes at a time no less. The fragile referee trick truly is one of the dumbest aspects of wrestling. Aside from the fact that its not that easy to knock someone else out (please dont attempt to prove me wrong on this point), there are more serious medical aspects of what actually happens when a person is knocked out, that get completely overlooked when apathetic WWE writers trot out this lazy cliche. In real life, it is imperative that you call an ambulance if someone is knocked out for a few minutes because they could actually have a brain injury. It's an incredible serious situation and it shouldnt be implied that a life-threatening knockout is merely a mild inconvenience to the outcome of a fight. Given how dangerous we know concussions are, and how much mainstream attention they are getting, you really think that WWE would find a more imaginative strategy to tell a story in the ring. Every time I see a referee go down, all I can do is ask how we are supposed to believe a grown man is so fragile, and how his family are going to be affected by the inevitable onset of degenerative brain conditions that he will suffer from so many on the job concussions.
