8 Radical Ideas To Save CM Punk

7. Writing A Book

April Mendez Brooks has her memoir, Crazy Is My Superpower, due out next Spring. Obviously it wouldn’t be cool of her doting husband to step on her d*ck by announcing his own so soon… but come on, at some point this has to be a no-brainer, surely?

This is a guy who was working his way up in the indies as the latter half of the Attitude Era transitioned into the the Ruthless Aggression Era. Punk has years of backyard wrestling experience to talk about, not to mention the dysfunctional family dynamic that’s clearly shaped his perspective on life from a very early age.

There’s the discipline of straight edge and the magnetic pull of punk rock. There’s the story of his segue from the iron man of the independents with Chris Hero, Samoa Joe and Colt Cabana, to working his way to the forefront of Ring Of Honor, becoming their™ first head trainer, and the advent of the first Summer Of Punk.

Let’s not forget that Punk worked in TNA in the early, chaotic Nashville Fairgrounds days, before they even had a non-PPV television show. He wrestled Eddie Guerrero in the IWA, becoming close friends with the future WWE Hall Of Famer before he rejoined the WWF. He’s an old-school guy, one of the legendary Harley Race€™’s favourites in the new school of wrestling, and a Paul Heyman guy after he signed with WWE.

There’s the reality check that came with the WWE’s first unfavourable impression of his work and his relegation to OVW for ten months as a consequence. There’s his rocky start in ECW, his winning two Money In The Bank matches at WrestleMania in a row and the Straight Edge Society. There’s the pipebomb, the second Summer Of Punk and the office politics and backroom manoeuvering that did their best to neuter it.

All this and - if he ever decides to get personal - there’s the many friends and enemies he made, the women in wrestling he€™’s been linked to and the woman he ended up marrying.

CM Punk’s autobiography has the potential to be one of the most fascinating publishing exercises in pro wrestling history, and could easily double his fortune. Like I said. No-brainer.
