8 Radical Ideas To Save CM Punk

6. Taking On The Punisher

No, I’m not advocating that Punk takes to the rooftops to fight crime (although that would be awesome), and no, this isn’t a euphemism for tangling with a giant, intimidating sex toy.

CM Punk has been writing the ongoing Drax series for Marvel with Cullen Bunn for a year or more, and getting increasingly positive reviews for it. Yet Drax is unlikely to have been Punk’s first choice. Let’s face it, as Marvel characters go, The Punisher is probably a far better fit. In fact, he’s been angling for the character since the beginning, including him as part of his initial pitch to Marvel.

If he wanted, there’s no reason in the world why Punk couldn’t make writing comic books a full-time career. Many writers are able to handle several books a month, especially when they’re the less complex superhero fare published by Marvel.

Out from under Bunn’s mentorship, Punk could flourish as a writer while getting to play in the Marvel sandbox, something the comics geek in him would certainly relish. The Daredevil TV series for Netflix has given Frank Castle a degree of mainstream notoriety that three previous movies haven’t managed. 2017 could well be The Punisher’s year, and adding CM Punk’s name would be the cherry on top.

It’s only a small step from that to a creator-owned series for Marvel’s Icon imprint. The sky’s the limit when it comes to Punk and Marvel.
