8 Reasons Friday's WWE Releases Were Justified

7. Santino Marella

When Santino Marella's release was announced, the general reaction from many was one of confusion as to him still being on the roster.

The Milan Miracle had actually announced his retirement in July 2014 as a result of frequent neck injuries, his last televised match seeing him crushed by Rusev in June 2014.

You could argue that keeping Santino on for the odd backstage segment or comical in-ring piece would be value enough, but that would be clutching at straws. The career of Santino Marella grew much larger than anyone could have imagined it was going to, but the sun had certainly set.

With no in-ring performances possible and a dwindling requirement for comical fake Italians, releasing Santino was also something of a no-brainer. Now he can concentrate on his school, his marriage and his inevitable eventual appearance in CHIKARA.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
