8 Reasons Friday's WWE Releases Were Justified

6. El Torito

If we're talking about pure wrestling talent, El Torito's release is the most disappointing of all.

If you go back and watch any of Mascarita Dorada's work before joining World Wrestling Entertainment and you'll see one hell of a wrestler, regardless of size. El Torito would only get a few chances to show this ability in WWE, but he managed to win over crowds whenever he was allowed to let loose.

With Los Matadores getting repackaged once again (seemingly as two guys from Puerto Rico, that's it), El Torito's time was clearly up. In many ways, his release can only be a good thing.

WWE's history of utilising performers of his size isn't exactly glowing (more on that shortly), and if he stayed with the company there's every chance the joke that wasn't funny in the first place would get rammed deep into the ground.

The assumption is that El Torito will end up in Lucha Underground, and I for one support such an idea. Someone book El Torito vs. The Monster Matanza Cueto already!

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
