8 Reasons Friday's WWE Releases Were Justified

2. Wade Barrett

In the years to come, it is the departure of Wade Barrett that will bring forward the most sighs from members of the WWE Universe.

vWhen he arrived on our television screens in the first season of NXT and subsequently as the leader of the Nexus, Barrett looked like a guaranteed long-term main event competitor. In many ways, he seemed like a can't-miss prospect.

Injuries certainly hindered his development, but every time he returned he would do so with a certain amount of push behind him. He would often score big wins over credible opponents, but towards the end of his tenure in WWE he became something of a running joke for the amount of pins he would take.

Simply put, WWE did not really know what to do with Wade Barrett. They missed the boat on him on a number of occasions, whether it was cashing in on him as the leader of the Nexus or turning him face on the back of bringing Bad News, the company simply seemed to draw a blank when it came to long-term ideas for the big man.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
