8 Reasons Shane McMahon Vs. The Undertaker Just Didn't Work

2. It Was All An Excuse To Build To One Spot

Can't make this a whole lot clearer. You knew Shane had to do something out of his mind in order to justify his only match in the past seven years (and what could possibly be his last match ever). You knew he was going to be jumping off something, and with Mick Foley setting the top-of-the-Cell precedent, you knew it was going to be the Cell.

Almost nothing of note happened before Shane began climbing the cage. That's over 25 minutes of Crash TV in slow motion, just so Shane could ascend the cage, throw himself off, and miss Undertaker. Yeah, it looked pretty cool, and it's good that Shane survived with little more than the requisite soreness, but in the end, it just felt like an excuse to ensure a 'WrestleMania moment' as opposed to being completely satisfying. What was accomplished, besides Shane jumping off of something?
