8 Reasons Why Billy Corgan Buying TNA Is Best For Business
7. Impact Has Improved Leaps & Bounds
TNA’s flagship show doesn’t exactly provoke positive connotations. Impact has become a weekly symbol of the company’s failings, and after playing host to some of the most cringeworthy stories the business has ever seen, it’s perfectly understandable. The show was almost entirely unwatchable for a while, particularly under Hogan, and its reputation remains tainted today.
This is a shame, because Impact has quietly evolved to become one of the sport’s most enjoyable weekly television shows. Perhaps it’s through Corgan’s influence, but the stories are tight and purposeful, the characters are mostly well-presented, and the match quality has been relatively high. There are still a few missteps (hey there, Mahabali Shera) and some of the stories definitely overstayed their welcome (Maria as the Knockouts’ figurehead), but Impact has become a fun, breezy watch that’s a lot easier to consume than Raw most weeks.
By closing down or selling to WWE, this momentum would be cut-off at the knees. It’s going to be hard for the company to attract new viewers in the short-term, but Impact is finally finding its feet again, and it’d be a shame to see it cancelled before reaching full flight. Corgan’s investment will maintain the weekly show’s forward motion, and help build towards the future.
