8 Reasons Why Billy Corgan Buying TNA Is Best For Business
3. Alternatives Are Good For Business
You can make a pretty credible argument that WWE’s takeover of WCW was the worst thing to ever happen to the wrestling business. Hindsight’s 20/20, of course, but the business has never recovered from it, and the lack of competition has allowed WWE to sink into a mind-numbing comfort zone without any real incentive to improve the product. At this point, it’s hard to see any company ever building enough strength to challenge WWE’s mighty reign, even with Raw’s ratings scraping an all-time low last week.
TNA aren’t going to be in direct competition with WWE any time soon, and yes, there are times when their product closely resembles WWE Lite. This doesn’t eclipse the fact that they’re a genuine alternative to Raw and SmackDown, though, and if Billy Corgan doesn’t buy them out and the company passes out of existence, it’s one less viewing choice for professional wrestling fans.
How can fewer viewing alternatives be a good thing? Regardless of all the bad things we can say about TNA, there are still people who enjoy Impact above all else. Some fans just aren’t into Lucha Underground outlandish storylines, ROH’s spotty presentation, and NJPW’s language barrier is just too great to cross. TNA is their prefered alternative, and without it, they might lose interest in the business all together.
