8 Reasons Why Goldberg Vs. Lesnar Was Completely Terrible For Business
4. Remember Undertaker’s Streak?
It is well past the point where we should give WWE the benefit of the doubt when it comes to storytelling. Vince McMahon does not think long term outside of something like “Dammit! Roman Reigns is going to be my top star over the next decade!” Just at Hell in a Cell last month he didn’t know what match was going on last, or who was even going to win between Sasha Banks and Charlotte until the day before the show. This is the man we should trust to really make something great out of Lesnar’s one-sided
Just go back to WrestleMania XXX to see how the boss has no idea on how to follow up on big moments anymore. What exactly was he trying to accomplish by ending The Streak? Lesnar went to SummerSlam that year, destroyed Cena and won the WWE Title. He successfully defended it in a couple rematches, then lost it because of a Money in the Bank cash in. That was the master plan? It didn’t really get Rollins over. It didn’t accomplish anything. It’s been nearly three years, and WWE threw away one of the most dependable, money making things they had going in Undertaker’s streak, and they got absolutely nothing in return.
There’s zero reason to think this will end up any better. They only gave Goldberg the win at all because he signed on for the Royal Rumble. So again, Vince changed his mind without having any destination in mind of where it's headed.
