8 Reasons Why Goldberg Vs. Lesnar Was Completely Terrible For Business

2. It Makes Everyone Else Look Like S**t

John Cena couldn’t defeat Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam 2014. It was a 16 minute massacre. Cena threw everything he had at Brock, but he looked like a child against the former UFC Champ. This is Cena we’re talking about, a guy who has defeated nearly every big name in the business, often against insurmountable odds. A 49 year old Goldberg did in 86 seconds what Cena could not do in multiple attempts.

The Undertaker, the most revered wrestler in WWE history, couldn’t beat Lesnar without resorting to cheating. Randy Orton, a legacy wrestler in the company, couldn’t even leave a Lesnar match on his own free will. Future top stars in Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins couldn’t handle the challenge either. The only one who could is a man who hadn’t wrestled since 2004.

This is a massive problem. This is why WWE’s ratings are tanking. No one is presented as a star anymore. Everyone is subservient to management, and feels like a cog in the corporate wheel. The only people who feel like they mean anything are the ones who stay away from the product entirely. That’s a damning statement on the company, but it’s a continuing problem they don’t seem to know how to overcome.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
