8 Reasons WWE Needs To Reunite The Shield

8. Instant Credibility

When The Shield were running roughshod over the entire WWE, just being able to hang with Ambrose, Reigns and Rollins was impressive. The Shield didn’t lose too many matches, but whenever they seemed to be close to being bested their opponents gained layers of legitimacy in the process. The summer of 2013 was highlighted by a series of excellent tag team titles matches between Rollins and Reigns and The Usos, matches which arguably revitalised the careers of the Brothers Uce.

Rollins and Reigns also had a number of excellent matches with Cody Rhodes and Goldust, matches which seemed to guarantee Cody’s future as a top level babyface star. That obviously didn’t come to fruition, but that is no fault of The Shield; they made the Rhodes boys look like stars.

WWE today is full of teams and individuals that could use the rub of going toe-to-toe with The Shield. The faction had an intangible ability to make matches seem important, and that isn’t something to ignore.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
