7. They Were Unique

The Shield may well go down in history as one of the greatest factions of all time, but it is often overlooked just how unique they were as a group. When you list the greatest factions of all time, names like The Four Horseman, D-Generation X, The nWo and Los Boricuas will come up. All of those groups had a clear hierarchy, clear leaders and clear henchmen.

Not so with The Shield. They were three equals, with no member standing above the other two when it came to power and influence. They all brought different attributes to the group, but these were put forward with the intention of complimenting each other as opposed to standing out.

The Shield were great individuals, but they were an unstoppable team. It was as if three men had taken an oath to make it, to divide the spoils of a victory that could only be attained as an unbreakable team. They were unique in wrestling history, and that can’t be said of many things.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
