8 Things 2021 WWE Royal Rumble Lifted From 2020
7. Edge Returns
One of WWE's biggest events, the Royal Rumble is often a stage reserved for special occasions, such as the return of a wrestling fan favourite. But it's not often that the same performer returns at the same event two years in a row.
When Edge entered at the start of the 2021 Royal Rumble, he managed to pull off the aforementioned feat in addition to winning the whole darn shooting match. It was almost as though 'The Rated-R Superstar' was going to be stuck in a Groundhog Day-like scenario, in which he had to keep returning at the Rumble until he finally got it right.
Outside of his entry number and winning this time, there weren't too many differences between Edge's back-to-back Royal Rumble match returns. Both appearances involved the history between him and Randy Orton. Both were injury returns. Both occasions saw him eliminate the same competitor. The list goes on.
WWE may have spoiled the reemergence of 'The Ultimate Opportunist' by announcing his participation beforehand, but there was still the twist of him winning again after 11 years and earning a championship opportunity at WrestleMania 36 Pt. III: Now The Sign Has Two Swords.
