8 Things About Wrestling That Just Don’t Make Sense

3. Some Wrestlers' Finishers Are Truly Pathetic

There are some impressive, high-impact finishers in wrestling that genuinely look like they are capable of inflicting great pain on an opponent (check out Alexander Podgorski€™s article for a superb list of some of these moves). Then there are also some brilliant submission manoeuvres which at times look like they could amputate an opponent€™s limb. Given this impressive array of moves some wrestlers display it remains baffling how some fairly tame looking finishers are portrayed as causing such damage. Let€™s start with everyone€™s favourite scapegoat Roman Reigns. As all wrestlers do, Roman will throw the occasional punch at his opponents causing them to stagger, or at most knock them off their feet briefly. So why is it then that simply jumping in the air before throwing his a punch, as he does when performing his €˜Superman Punch€™ finisher, seems to result in some sort of Mike Tyson-esque knockout blow that devastates his opponent? Although at least Roman has the decency to jump before throwing his punch. Big Show€™s €˜Knockout Punch€™ on the other hand is just a simple punch to the head. A basic punch! A move so simple you can perform it with any wrestler in WWE 2K15 by pressing the €˜strike€™ button! Why are we supposed to believe that this is such a painful move when punches are thrown all the time in wrestling with very little impact? Even two of the greatest wrestlers of all-time €“ Hulk Hogan and The Rock €“ have finishers which, when you think about it, are pretty pathetic. Leg drops are performed all the time in wrestling with minimal effect, however not when it€™s Hogan€™s €˜Atomic leg drop€™. Maybe it€™s just his technique, eh? The Rock€™s legendary €œPeople€™s Elbow€ a move that we all grew up thinking was one of the coolest moves we€™d ever seen, is just essentially just an overly elaborate elbow drop. And yet people almost never kicked out of either move! It just doesn€™t make sense!
