Vinnie-Ru, if nothing else, is an enthusiastic self-champion. Russo was certainly part of McMahon's inner-circle at the time the events took place, but most reliable sources shoot down the idea that he suggested anything about low-bridging Hart on his way out the door.

Jim Cornette will tell you in the immediate aftermath that Russo was dumbfounded by the premature bell ringing, and needed to have it explained to him. Then again, Cornette rarely says a good word about Russo anyhow.

On Wednesday, November 5, a frustrated Cornette offhandedly told McMahon, "God**mn Vince, it’s your fu**ing belt. Just double-cross him". Later in the day, McMahon spoke to Michaels and Triple H via conference call, an occasion where Helmsley suggested "doing business for (Hart)" if Hart didn't want to lay down.

It was there that McMahon began seriously considering the unthinkable.
