8 Things Everybody Gets Wrong About The Montreal Screwjob

5. Bret Refused To Drop The Belt, Period

This idea stems from the fact that Hart admits suggesting to McMahon that on the November 10 Raw, he could just cut a goodbye speech, hand over the belt, and then leave with his head held high. One could understand McMahon not wanting to go that route - his unbeaten champion simply saying, "Here's your belt" before headed south for WCW would have been a devastating blow to WWE.

While Hart did suggest that idea, he also suggested putting over other wrestlers at different times on his way out, including Austin, Michaels (again, just not in Montreal), Shamrock, and even The Brooklyn Brawler if it would make things right.

The handover suggestion is used by some to claim that Hart refused all jobs out of hand.
