8 Things Everybody Gets Wrong About The Montreal Screwjob

2. Earl Hebner Was Voluntarily In On It

Hebner's made a habit out of fanning flames of the incident by wearing a "Damn Right I Did" t-shirt under his officiating attire, exposing it against chants of "You Screwed Bret" at TNA house shows. That's nothing more than a way to co-opt heat from the residual life the story's had over the past two decades.

In reality, Hebner hated doing what he did.

After promising Hart he wouldn't screw him over, Hebner was stopped by Brisco, who forcefully told him that if he didn't do what he was told, he would effectively be finished with WWE. He was also reminded that he was mic'd for the match, so if he tipped Hart off to the conspiracy, they would know it, and he'd be out of a job for non-compliance.
